DCI Apprehends Prime Suspect After Week-Long Search for 21-Year-Old Student Ends in Grim Discovery
The search for 21-year-old Rose Benter Apondi, a student at the Ramogi Institute of Advanced Technology (RIAT), has come to a tragic conclusion. Following a week of uncertainty, DCI detectives recovered her body yesterday, April 12, in the Riat Forest of Kisumu West.
The Disappearance
Rose was reported missing on the night of April 5, 2026. Investigators believe she was lured into a drinking spree in the Milimani area of Kisumu before she vanished. After seven days of searching, her body was discovered in a decomposing state, with police reports confirming she had suffered multiple stab wounds.
Prime Suspect in Custody
Detectives have made a major breakthrough with the arrest of Stephen Coleman Okoth, identified as the victim's ex-boyfriend. According to the DCI:
The suspect was found in possession of items belonging to the deceased.
Evidence suggests a premeditated encounter on the night she went missing.
He is currently being processed for arraignment in court.
Ongoing Investigation
While a primary suspect is behind bars, the DCI is not ruling out the involvement of others. Specialized teams are currently tracing additional leads to ensure everyone involved in this heinous act faces the full force of the law.
A Community in Grief
The RIAT student body and the Kisumu community are in deep mourning. This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the safety challenges facing students and the urgent need for justice.
