Migori Youth bag historic first top-flight win as AFC Leopards finally win at home in Ingo Derby
Sunday's FKF Premier League action produced a piece of history in Awendo and a long-awaited home win for AFC Leopards, as both Migori Youth and Ingwe recorded 2-0 victories.
Migori make history
Migori Youth finally tasted victory in the top flight, beating fellow strugglers Mombasa United 2-0 at Green Stadium, Awendo. After three straight draws, the win was the first in the club's top-flight history.
Philemon Nyakwaka broke the deadlock from the penalty spot just before half-time after a handball in the box, sending goalkeeper Mustapha Oduor the wrong way. Nyakwaka had earlier been denied by a save and also struck the woodwork.
Fredrick Ologi sealed the result about five minutes from time, finishing a cutback from Christopher Koloti. The result takes Migori to six points from four matches, while Mombasa United remain without a point after four defeats.
Leopards end home drought
In the Ingo Derby at Wang'uru Stadium in Mwea, AFC Leopards beat Kakamega Homeboyz 2-0 for their first home win of the season. Ingwe had drawn three of their opening four games, including goalless home draws against Bandari and Shabana.
- Emmanuel Lwangu headed the opener just before half-time from a James Kinyanjui corner.
- Kinyanjui then got on the scoresheet himself in the 56th minute, converting a cross from Adama Kanteh.
Coach Fred Ambani said the win rewarded his side's persistence. "We have been creating chances, but sometimes the final touch has let us down," he said. Homeboyz coach Edward Manoah urged his players to move on quickly. "We must learn from this. There is no point dwelling on the result," he said.
Leopards remain unbeaten and are now third on nine points, while Homeboyz, who also lost to Gor Mahia in midweek, have four points from four matches.
