From Defeat to Glory: How RASAMU Silenced Doubts and Reclaimed Cultural Supremacy at Maseno
The road to victory is often paved with lessons from defeat, and for RASAMU, the Luo community at Maseno University, Cultural Week 2026 became a powerful story of resilience, determination, and redemption.
After falling short in previous competitions, the Luo community returned this year with renewed energy and a clear mission—to correct past mistakes and reclaim their place at the top. Speaking during a podcast interview, David Onyango, popularly known as Wuod Nyauma, revealed that while the defending champions from the Maa community appeared comfortable with their previous success, RASAMU was busy preparing for a comeback.
"The defending champions were relaxed, but we were motivated. We reviewed our past mistakes and corrected where necessary," David said.
That preparation was evident on stage. RASAMU delivered outstanding performances in Traditional Dance and Sacred Song, two categories that played a crucial role in determining the overall winner. Their passion, discipline, and teamwork ultimately earned them the Cultural Week crown.
For the Maa community, the competition took an unexpected turn. The defending champions did not present an item in the Sacred Song category, having left it to the Samburu team. The missed opportunity proved costly as the final scores were tallied.
As celebrations erupted among Luo students, murmurs of dissatisfaction emerged from some quarters, with claims that the results had been compromised. However, David dismissed the allegations, noting that different people interpret results differently depending on where they stand.
"In life, each and every person has his or her own view on understanding results according to how they were ranked," he remarked.
Beyond the debates and emotions, Cultural Week 2026 delivered a lasting lesson: success belongs to those willing to learn, adapt, and work harder than before. For RASAMU, the win was more than a prize—it was proof that perseverance always has its day.
