Vihiga Friends High School has emerged as the overall winner of the 2026 Western Region Scouts Competition after an impressive display of leadership, discipline, teamwork, and scouting skills at the regional event held in Malava, Kakamega County. The victory cements the school's reputation as one of the region's leading institutions in co-curricular excellence.

The competition, which brought together top scout teams from secondary schools across Western Kenya, tested participants in various scouting disciplines, including practical skills, community service, leadership, and teamwork. Scouts demonstrated their abilities through a series of challenging activities designed to nurture responsible and resilient young leaders.

According to the official results, Vihiga Friends topped the standings with 160 points, narrowly edging out Kaimosi Boys High School, which finished second with 158 points. Butere Boys High School secured third place with 136 points, while Kolanya Boys High School and Bungoma High School completed the top five positions.

The triumph has earned Vihiga Friends the honor of representing the Western Region at the National Scouts Competition scheduled to take place in Kiambu County later this year. School administrators, teachers, and parents have expressed confidence that the team will continue its winning streak on the national stage.

Speaking after the announcement of the results, school officials praised the scouts for their commitment, discipline, and determination throughout the competition. They noted that the achievement reflects the school's dedication to nurturing all-round students who excel both academically and in co-curricular activities.

Education stakeholders and local leaders have also lauded the scouts, emphasizing the importance of scouting in instilling values such as responsibility, service, patriotism, and teamwork among young people. They described the victory as a source of pride for Vihiga County and an inspiration to other learners across the region.

As preparations begin for the national championships, the Vihiga Friends scouts are expected to intensify training in a bid to bring home the national title. Their success in Malava has not only showcased their talent and resilience but has also reaffirmed the role of scouting in shaping future leaders for the country.
