12-Year Jail Term for Two Men Convicted of Possessing and Transporting Explosives
The Isiolo Law Court has sentenced two men to 12 years in prison after finding them guilty of possessing and transporting explosives without the required permits.
The court convicted Musa Mohammed and Joel Ntongai Ntonja over offences committed after they were intercepted at the Archers Post roadblock in Samburu County along the Isiolo–Moyale highway.
According to prosecutors, security officers conducting routine inspections at the roadblock discovered explosives being transported by the two suspects without the authorization required under Kenyan law. Their arrest led to investigations that culminated in their prosecution before the Isiolo court.
During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence linking the accused persons to the illegal possession and transportation of the explosives. The court found that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt and subsequently convicted the two men.
In delivering the judgment, the court emphasized the serious threat posed by the unauthorized handling and movement of explosive materials, noting that such offences endanger public safety and national security.
The 12-year custodial sentence sends a strong warning against the illegal possession, transportation, and use of explosives in the country. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing laws governing explosives and other hazardous materials to safeguard the public.
The conviction comes amid continued efforts by security agencies to curb the unlawful movement of dangerous substances and strengthen security along key transport corridors across the country.
