VIMSA Mobilises Delegates Behind Etyang’s Sports Ambitions
VIMSA Endorses Kennedy Etyang for SOMU Sports Docket
The Voice of Iteso Maseno Students Association (VIMSA) has officially endorsed Kennedy Etyang for the position of Students Organization of Maseno University (SOMU) Cabinet Secretary for Sports and Entertainment, signalling growing support for his candidacy ahead of the forthcoming student elections.
The endorsement was announced during VIMSA’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), held at Trinity Fellowship grounds, which brought together aspirants, student delegates and association members for deliberations on student leadership and the future of SOMU.
VIMSA Secretary General, popularly known as the Tiger of Africa, called upon delegates to rally behind Etyang, arguing that his candidacy represented an opportunity to advance a student leadership structure free from cartelism.
The Secretary General urged delegates to make informed decisions that prioritise accountability, inclusivity and the interests of the wider student community. He maintained that the next SOMU leadership should focus on service delivery rather than entrenched political interests that could undermine effective representation.
VIMSA Chairperson David Imailuk led the association in endorsing Etyang, pledging the organisation’s support for his bid for the Sports and Entertainment docket. His endorsement underscored the association’s confidence in Etyang’s candidacy and its willingness to participate actively in shaping the next generation of student leadership.
The AGM provided a platform for aspirants and delegates to interact, exchange views and discuss leadership priorities as political activities surrounding the SOMU elections continue to gather momentum.
Speaking to Hamasta Media following the meeting, the association’s representatives reiterated their position on the importance of supporting leadership that places students’ interests at the centre of decision-making.
The endorsement marks a significant political development for Etyang as aspirants continue to seek support from student associations, delegates and other influential campus stakeholders.
With the SOMU elections approaching, endorsements from organised student associations could prove influential in shaping delegate preferences and determining the eventual composition of the student leadership.
However, the ultimate decision rests with the electorate, whose choices will determine the direction of SOMU and the priorities of the incoming leadership.
As campaigns intensify, attention now turns to how Etyang will consolidate the support generated by VIMSA’s endorsement and translate it into broader backing across the university.
