Amos Kipruto wins Chicago Marathon in 2:01:09 as Kenyan women fill the podium
Kenya's Amos Kipruto won the Bank of America Chicago Marathon on Sunday in an unofficial 2:01:09. He pulled away from defending champion Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda after 30 km, and Kiplimo faded to fourth in 2:04:18.
Kipruto had finished third in Chicago in 2024 and second last year. This is his second World Marathon Major title, after London in 2022. His time matches Eliud Kipchoge's personal best on the all-time list. Ethiopia's Tadese Takele was second in 2:02:56 and Milkesa Mengesha third in 2:03:46. Daniel Mateiko was the next Kenyan man, in sixth.
In the women's race, Ethiopia's Hawi Feysa defended her title in 2:13:33. Kenyans took the next four places: Sharon Lokedi (2:14:07), Brigid Kosgei (2:14:55), Mary Ngugi-Cooper (2:17:23) and Joan Kilimo (2:18:39).
Results remain unofficial until the organisers confirm them.
