Kenyan fashion label KikoRomeo has taken its latest collection, "Ewala", to the runway at Moscow Fashion Week, putting Kenyan design in front of an international audience of editors, buyers and industry leaders.

The show

The show took place on October 1 at the Central Exhibition Hall Manege, the historic venue next to the Kremlin that hosts Moscow Fashion Week's main shows. KikoRomeo appeared on the event's official calendar, with Nairobi Fashion Week arranging its participation.

The collection

Ewala is designed under the creative direction of KikoRomeo founder Ann McCreath and Iona McCreath. The collection explores structure, drape and how materials behave, and leans heavily on sustainable craft:

  • rain-fed organic cotton
  • handloom textiles
  • hand-carved coconut-shell buttons and brass hardware
  • zero-waste garment construction, which avoids offcuts and fabric waste

Ann McCreath described the collection as a direct reflection of Kenya's evolving design identity.

Opening new markets

Nairobi Fashion Week Creative Director Brian Kihindas said the show is part of a wider push to open new markets for Kenyan designers and raise the country's profile in global fashion.

KikoRomeo is one of Kenya's longest-running fashion houses, known for combining African textiles and craftsmanship with modern tailoring.

For Kenya's growing fashion industry, appearances like this matter because they can lead to stockists, export orders and international press, and help make "Made in Kenya" a label buyers look for.
