Three Bondo Church Leaders Released on Bond Over Alleged Burning of Four Minors During Exorcism Ritual
Accused Leaders Deny Charges
Gaudensia Juma, Steven Omondi and Clinton Obudho appeared before Bondo Law Courts Magistrate Christabel Maiyo, where they denied the charges.
The court granted Juma a personal bond of KSh 100,000, with an alternative cash bail of KSh 50,000. Omondi and Obudho were each released on personal bonds of KSh 300,000.
Court Issues Warning Against Interference
Magistrate Maiyo directed the accused persons not to interfere with prosecution witnesses or the parents of the affected children.
The court warned that any breach of the conditions could lead to cancellation of their bonds.
The case is scheduled for mention on October 26, 2026.
Investigations Into Alleged Church Ritual
The case stems from an incident at St. Abraham Israel Assemblies of God Church in Bondo, where four children reportedly sustained burns during a religious exercise allegedly intended to drive out evil spirits.
The incident came to the attention of authorities after concerns were raised about a child who had sustained burn injuries. Police subsequently launched investigations, leading to the arrest of suspects linked to the incident.
Authorities have also raised concerns about the safety and welfare of the affected children as investigations continue. The allegations remain subject to court proceedings, and the accused are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
