Onyango Oloo's Freedom and Opportunity Party gets full registration, eyes 2027 presidency
Former The National Alliance (TNA) Secretary-General Onyango Oloo has received a full registration certificate for his Freedom and Opportunity Party (FOP), adding another player to an increasingly crowded field ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The party received the certificate on Monday, October 12, 2026, becoming the 102nd political party in Kenya, The Eastleigh Voice reported. FOP had been provisionally registered in January 2026, according to records published by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), under the slogan "Together we rise, together we prosper".
Presidential ambitionSpeaking after the handover, Oloo said he was prepared to contest the presidency, subject to the backing of party members.
"I am offering myself to contest for the top seat. If party members endorse it, I will be in the race," he said, according to The Eastleigh Voice.
He said his immediate priority was to build the party and establish its identity before entering any coalition talks, adding that FOP would only work with like-minded parties whose aspirations matched its own. He also said the party was not seeking power at any cost and would be content to serve in the Opposition if voters chose that role for it.
Registrar's chargeRegistrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou, who presented the certificate, urged the party to stay true to its stated ideology, give young people room in its affairs and maintain a national outlook. He warned that running a party would be demanding as political activity intensifies, describing the environment as "already charged".
BackgroundOloo served as secretary-general of TNA, the party former President Uhuru Kenyatta used in the 2013 election. In July 2026, he commissioned FOP's Central Region office in Sagana, Kirinyaga County, where he appealed to Mt Kenya residents to back his bid and argued that a partnership between the Luo and Kikuyu communities was key to national unity, KBC reported.
The registration comes amid a surge in new parties as aspirants seek vehicles for 2027. The Nation has reported on dozens of new outfits registering in the run-up to the polls, while opposition leaders continue to debate whether to field a single candidate against President William Ruto.
What nextAs a fully registered party, FOP can now field candidates in the 2027 elections, subject to IEBC requirements. Oloo has not said when the party will hold nominations or formally name its presidential candidate.
