Gachagua hosts Narok West aspirant Amos Kipeen in Boston over 2027 MP bid
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hosted Amos Kipeen, an aspirant for the Narok West parliamentary seat, in Boston in the United States for talks on the constituency's political future ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement on his social media pages on Monday, October 12, 2026, Gachagua said Kipeen had told him that Narok West residents had asked him to contest the seat on a Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, The Star and People Daily reported.
"He briefed me that the residents of Narok West Constituency had asked him to contest the next general election to be their Member of Parliament under the DCP Party, the most popular political party in Narok," Gachagua said, according to People Daily.
Elders to have the final word
The DCP leader said the two had agreed that, in line with Maa traditions, community elders would formally communicate the community's decision when they visit him after his return to Kenya. He praised Kipeen's passion for articulating the challenges facing Narok West residents and said people-centred leadership would remain central to the next political dispensation.
No formal DCP nomination has been announced, and the party's claim to be the most popular in Narok is Gachagua's own assessment.
DCP's push in Narok
The meeting is the latest sign of Gachagua's effort to make inroads in the Maa region, traditionally a battleground between rival Rift Valley camps. DCP won the Narok Town Ward by-election in November 2025, when its candidate Douglas Twala Masikonde beat UDA's Robert Kanyinke Ole Kudate, according to People Daily. In the Emurua Dikirr parliamentary by-election in May 2026, DCP's Vincent Kibet Rotich came second behind UDA's David Kipsang Keter.
Gachagua has also toured Narok East in recent months, endorsing a DCP aspirant there and urging Maasai voters to reject the ruling party in 2027, The Standard reported.
The Narok West seat
Narok West is currently represented by Gabriel Tongoyo, who was elected on a UDA ticket in 2022 and has chaired the National Assembly's security committee. The Standard has reported that Tongoyo is eyeing the Narok governorship, which could leave the parliamentary seat open in 2027.
What next
Kipeen's bid will become clearer once the elders' delegation meets Gachagua and DCP sets out its nomination process for the constituency.
