Police arrest suspect with 200 rolls of bhang in Embu
Police in Embu County have arrested a suspect allegedly found with 200 rolls of suspected bhang during an anti-narcotics operation at Kakawa Market.
Officers from Makima Police Station carried out the operation on Sunday, October 11, according to the National Police Service (NPS), as reported by KBC and People Daily.
The rolls were taken to Makima Police Station, where they are being kept as exhibits. The suspect, who has not been named, remains in custody at the station pending arraignment in court.
Wider crackdown
The NPS said the arrest is part of continuing operations to dismantle narcotics networks across the country. It thanked members of the public for their cooperation and urged them to stay vigilant and share timely information with the nearest police station or emergency services.
The police did not give the estimated street value of the bhang or say whether the suspect is linked to any wider supply network.
The arrest is one of several similar cases reported in recent days. In Busia, detectives said on October 10 they had arrested a suspect with 1,121 rolls of bhang hidden in mobile phone boxes. Embu County has also recorded larger seizures this year, including about 3,450 rolls recovered in a separate operation in July, when the suspect fled.
What the law says
Possession of cannabis is an offence under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act. Penalties depend on the quantity involved and whether the court finds the drugs were for personal use or for trafficking.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty and is expected to be charged in court once police complete their investigations.
