Ruto Renews Attacks on Sifuna, Mocks The Equitable Party as ‘Empty’
Speaking in West Pokot on Wednesday, October 14, Ruto referred to Sifuna as “Mr Empty” and mocked the party by calling it “The Empty Party.” His remarks add to an ongoing exchange between the President and the senator, who has positioned himself as part of the emerging opposition political movement.
Ruto Takes Aim at Sifuna's Party and Social Life
During his address, Ruto claimed that Sifuna launched TEP and then went straight to a bar. He also referred to a recent public appearance involving Congolese musician Koffi Olomide, making remarks about the alcoholic drinks on the table.
The President's comments were delivered in a mocking tone and focused on Sifuna's party launch and social activities rather than setting out a detailed policy criticism of the party.
The remarks have intensified the public political exchange between the two leaders as parties and political movements prepare for the 2027 election.
Sifuna's Political Plans Ahead of 2027
Sifuna unveiled The Equitable Party on October 4, presenting it as a political vehicle for his ambitions ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The launch was attended by several political figures associated with the Linda Mwananchi movement.
The senator has outlined priorities including reducing the tax burden, improving healthcare and education, tackling government waste and strengthening public accountability.
His political team has also moved to rebrand TEP as the Linda Mwananchi Movement, although the proposed changes require the relevant formal processes.
Political Exchanges Intensify Before the Election
Ruto's latest remarks come amid growing political competition ahead of the 2027 General Election, with the President seeking another term and opposition figures exploring political alliances and alternative platforms.
The repeated exchanges between Ruto and Sifuna highlight the increasingly personal tone of their public disagreements. However, the wider political contest will also involve debates over taxation, public spending, employment, healthcare and the cost of living.
Sifuna's response to the President's latest remarks was not included in the reports reviewed for this article.
