Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has announced that the Linda Mwananchi Movement will hold its next rally in Kwale County on Saturday, 31 October 2026. The movement is taking its campaign to the Coast.

The announcement follows Tuesday's meeting between Sifuna's team and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at Wamunyoro in Nyeri. That meeting fuelled talk of a broader opposition alliance for 2027.

Building a national footprint

Sifuna says the movement wants a presence in all 47 counties before it engages other opposition leaders on a joint strategy, People Daily reported. The Kwale rally will build on earlier gatherings in Mombasa and Taita Taveta.

The team had earlier planned to tour Turkana and West Pokot, but appears to have shifted its focus to the Coast first.

Contest for Coast votes

The Coast has traditionally been an ODM stronghold. Linda Mwananchi, made up largely of ODM figures who oppose the party's cooperation with President William Ruto, is competing for the same voters. In August, a section of local ODM supporters in the region announced they were leaving the party to back the movement.

Capital FM described the Kwale event as an attempt by the movement to gain a foothold in the region ahead of the 2027 polls.

Party status

The rally comes as Sifuna's team pushes to turn The Equitable Party (TEP) into the Linda Mwananchi Movement party. A rival outfit, the Liberty National Democratic Alliance, has objected to the change at the Registrar of Political Parties.

The movement's rallies have drawn large crowds in Nairobi, Kitale and other towns.
