Wizkid's Sh2 million VIP table for Nairobi Detty Dezemba show sparks debate among Kenyan fans
A Sh2 million VIP package for Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid's Nairobi concert has become one of the most talked-about topics among Kenyan entertainment fans this week, with many questioning what the money actually buys.
Wizkid will headline the Detty Dezemba Festival in Nairobi on Saturday, December 12, which is also Jamhuri Day. The singer, known to fans as Starboy, confirmed the show on Instagram on Sunday, October 25, sharing the event poster with a heart emoji and the letters "KE", K24 Digital reported.
What Sh2 million gets you
The top-tier offer, listed under the Detty Dezemba Terrace section as the "Ogbafia" table, is pitched as a group luxury experience. According to K24 Digital and Ghafla, it includes:
- A private section for up to 30 guests
- A Sh1 million bar tab
- Dedicated security and personal service through the night
- A photo session with the artists
- 20 parking stickers
- Exclusive pick-up and drop-off to the venue
Split equally among 30 people, the package works out to roughly Sh66,700 per guest before the bar tab and other perks are considered. Cheaper standard tickets are also available.
Fans divided
Reaction on social media has ranged from jokes to genuine questions about value. One fan asked whether an unspent bar tab would be refunded or simply "go to waste", while others wondered why parking stickers were needed if the package already includes transport. Some joked that for that amount they would expect to fly to Lagos with the singer.
Others saw it as a typical premium offer aimed at corporate groups and friends pooling money, rather than at the average fan.
Lineup still growing
Wizkid will share the stage with South African DJ and amapiano star Uncle Waffles, with more acts yet to be announced, according to Ghafla. The organisers have not publicly detailed the full lineup or the expected crowd size.
The concert adds to a busy end-of-year entertainment calendar in Nairobi, which has seen a run of international acts in recent weeks, including American R&B singer Ne-Yo, who performed in the city in October. For Wizkid's Kenyan fans, the December date will be a chance to see one of Africa's biggest stars live, whatever section of the venue they end up in.
