The National Assembly has appointed Luanda Member of Parliament Dick Maungu as the interim chairperson of the Public Investments Committee on Governance and Education (PIC-GE), following the suspension of the committee’s former chair, Jack Wamboka, who is facing bribery allegations.

The decision, made yesterday, marks a dramatic shift in the leadership of one of Parliament’s key oversight committees, as investigations into Wamboka’s conduct take centre stage.

Maungu’s appointment comes at a tense moment, with lawmakers calling for stability and continuity in the committee’s work even as questions swirl around the circumstances leading to Wamboka’s suspension.

Sources within Parliament indicate that the reshuffle is meant to ensure that ongoing oversight processes in the education and governance sectors are not disrupted.

While details of the allegations against Wamboka remain under probe, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission is expected to play a central role in the investigations.

In the meantime, all eyes will be on Maungu as he steps into the interim role, tasked with steering a committee that sits at the heart of accountability in public investments.

The leadership transition underscores growing pressure on parliamentary committees to maintain integrity as anti-corruption scrutiny tightens across the political landscape.
