Josphat Olonyi, an aspiring Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Emabungo Ward in the 2027 General Elections, has expressed gratitude after successfully completing a three-day political leadership training programme organised by the International Republican Institute (IRI).

The training, which brought together young MCA aspirants from different parts of Western Kenya, was held at Hunters Paradise Cottages. It focused on equipping emerging political leaders with the knowledge, skills and practical experience necessary to participate effectively in democratic and political processes.

Speaking after the conclusion of the programme, Olonyi described the training as an important learning opportunity that had broadened his understanding of political organisation, grassroots mobilisation, strategic communication and leadership.

He noted that the sessions had provided valuable insights into engaging political parties, communicating with different stakeholders, connecting with voters and understanding the challenges affecting local communities.

Olonyi also highlighted the importance of maintaining constructive relationships with political opponents, arguing that democratic leadership requires meaningful engagement, dialogue and respect for differing opinions.

He expressed appreciation to the International Republican Institute for facilitating the programme and investing in the leadership development of young people aspiring to take up elective positions.

As he continues to prepare for the 2027 General Elections, Olonyi reaffirmed his commitment to serving the people of Emabungo Ward, promising to prioritise learning, listening to residents and engaging communities on issues affecting their daily lives.

His participation in the training comes at a time when young people are increasingly seeking greater representation and participation in Kenya's political leadership.

Under his campaign slogan, "OBWAMI MUBANDU," Olonyi says his political journey will be guided by continuous learning, community engagement and a commitment to meaningful development.

He concluded by emphasising that leadership is a continuous learning process, signalling his determination to remain engaged as he pursues his ambition of representing Emabungo Ward in the County Assembly in 2027.
