MASENO, Kenya– On May 7, students from Maseno University came together in a touching tree-planting initiative held at the University Farm near Car wash area. The event, organized in partnership with the Kenya Forestry and Research Institute (KEFRI) and Maseno University, highlighted the power of collective action for environmental sustainability.

Representatives from various clubs and organizations actively participated, including the UNESCO Maseno Chapter, Maseno University Association of Business Students, Maseno University Environmental Science Students Association, and Maseno University Education Students. Their enthusiastic involvement turned the morning into a meaningful celebration of commitment to the planet.

University Registrar for Partnership, Research and Innovation, Mr. Samson Moracha, led the team with passion and guidance as students carefully planted indigenous trees. With every sapling placed into the soil, participants expressed a deep sense of purpose and hope for the future.

“Every tree we plant today is a promise to future generations,” Mr. Moracha said. “It reflects our shared commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable world.”

The atmosphere was filled with energy and emotion. Students from different backgrounds laughed creating memories while contributing to a worthy cause. Many described the experience as deeply fulfilling.

“This is more than just planting,” one Environmental Science student shared. “It feels like giving back to Mother Nature and fighting climate change with our own hands.”

In a world facing deforestation and climate challenges, this initiative at Maseno University serves as an inspiring reminder that young people are ready to lead by example. The newly planted trees now stand as living symbols of resilience, unity, and hope.

Maseno University continues to prove that education goes beyond classrooms—it grows through actions that nurture both knowledge and nature. Yesterday’s effort may be small in scale, but its impact will stretch far into the future
