Fear and Anger Grip Luanda as Boda Boda Killings Spark Calls for Urgent Security Action
Residents of Luanda Sub-County are demanding immediate intervention from security agencies following a disturbing rise in violent crimes targeting boda boda operators. The latest incident, involving the killing of a young rider popularly known as Brayo, has left the community shocked, heartbroken, and increasingly concerned about their safety.
Many residents believe the perpetrators may be operating from within the boda boda sector itself, raising questions about trust and security among operators. The tragic death of Brayo has reignited public debate on the need for stricter regulations governing the boda boda industry and enhanced security measures to protect riders.
The incident is not isolated. Community members point to several recent attacks, including a rider from Hobunaka who reportedly lost his motorcycle while heading to work, and another operator, Steve from Baba Mdogo Stage in Emuhaya, who narrowly escaped death after raising an alarm during an attack at Musilongo. Although he survived, he sustained injuries, while the attackers failed to make away with his motorcycle.
Residents have also urged government authorities to take decisive action. They are calling for increased police patrols, thorough investigations, swift prosecution of suspects, and the implementation of a clear security strategy to curb the escalating violence.
“The primary responsibility of any government is to guarantee the safety and security of its people,” one resident remarked. “The people of Luanda deserve protection, and these killings must come to an end.”
As fear continues to spread across the sub-county, residents hope authorities will act swiftly before more innocent lives are lost.
