Sirikwa House Elections Mark a New Chapter for Kalenjin Students at Maseno University
The Kalenjin community at Maseno University has ushered in a new era of leadership following the successful conclusion of the Sirikwa House elections held at the Siriba Campus. The exercise not only demonstrated unity and democratic spirit but also provided a platform to reflect on broader student leadership matters, including discussions around SOMU politics.
Enock Rotich emerged victorious as the Sirikwa House Chairperson, earning the trust and confidence of the electorate. His win signals hope for renewed leadership and a commitment to advancing the interests of the community within the university.
In a closely contested race for the position of Vice Secretary, Rubby Kilimo secured her seat after a dramatic tie with a competitor. The mlolongo mzima system was employed to break the deadlock, underscoring the transparency and determination to uphold fairness throughout the electoral process
Outgoing Chairperson Abel Mandago gracefully handed over leadership, expressing optimism about the incoming team. He congratulated the newly elected leaders and reaffirmed his willingness to support them during the transition. Mandago noted that his continued presence within the institution would allow him to guide and collaborate with the new leadership to ensure continuity and stability.
Beyond the elections, the gathering also served as a crucial forum to deliberate on issues affecting students, particularly those touching on SOMU politics. This reflects the community’s growing interest in shaping the wider student leadership landscape at Maseno University.
As the new team takes office, there is a shared sense of anticipation and responsibility. The Sirikwa House leadership is expected to champion unity, representation, and progress for the Kalenjin students, building on the foundation laid by their predecessors.
