Record champions Gor Mahia remain the only side with a perfect record in the new SportPesa Premier League season after a narrow win over Bandari, while bitter rivals AFC Leopards were left frustrated by a goalless draw against Shabana in a round dominated by stalemates.

Onyango keeps K'Ogalo perfect

Captain Alpha Onyango struck in the 67th minute as Gor Mahia edged Bandari 1-0 at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday, The Star reported. Enock Machaka should have doubled the lead in the 82nd minute but, after rounding the goalkeeper, hit the crossbar. The result gives K'Ogalo nine points from three matches and sets them four points clear of their closest challengers.

Elsewhere on Saturday, Migori Youth and Mathare United played out a goalless draw at Awendo Green Stadium in a match halted by heavy rain in the 14th minute. When play resumed on a waterlogged pitch, Migori's Philemon Nyakwaka headed against the post in the 80th minute, while Mathare goalkeeper Kevin Ouru was named man of the match.

Ulinzi Stars and Mara Sugar also failed to find the net at the SportPesa Arena, with Ulinzi goalkeeper Ricks Omondi making key saves and Mara Sugar's Drona Langa clearing a goal-bound effort off the line in the 67th minute.

Ingwe pay for missed penalty

On Sunday, AFC Leopards were awarded a 58th-minute penalty against Shabana at Nyayo after Herbert Sanday fouled Semo, but captain Kayci Odhiambo's spot kick was saved by goalkeeper Ndzila and the match ended 0-0, according to The Standard. Leopards had beaten Kenya Police 2-1 in their previous outing, while Shabana had lost to Nairobi United.

Both sides now have five points, four behind Gor Mahia. Leopards coach Fred Ambani admitted his team's finishing was the problem, having scored only twice in three league games.

"Our main doing is scoring... our strikers are struggling to score, they are very goal-shy," Ambani told Capital FM, saying the return of injured players would help. He defended his captain: "We cannot blame him for the penalty miss... on any other day, he would be converting it."

Leopards travel to Awendo to face Mara Sugar in midweek.

First points for the newcomers

Promoted 3K FC recorded their first ever top-flight win, beating Murang'a Seal 2-1 at Embu Stadium. Glen Githinji opened the scoring in the 24th minute and Oscar Juma doubled the lead about ten minutes later before Michael Owen pulled one back for Murang'a Seal in first-half stoppage time. 3K had drawn their opening two games against Mara Sugar and Bandari.

Nairobi United, the club associated with Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, snatched a 1-1 draw against APS Bomet at the Police Sacco Stadium with a 94th-minute equaliser. The result leaves Bomet still searching for a first win after a goalless draw with Mathare and a 1-0 defeat to Gor Mahia.

At Mbaraki, newcomers Mombasa United collected their first point of the season after a goalless draw with Kenya Police.
