Police win Afande derby and 10-man Mathare stun Tusker as both sides finally get off the mark
Kenya Police and Mathare United both won for the first time in the 2026/27 FKF Premier League season on Thursday. Police edged Ulinzi Stars 1-0 in the Disciplined Forces derby, and 10-man Mathare beat title hopefuls Tusker 2-1.
In the day's other match, Shabana missed the chance to climb to second place when newcomers Migori Youth held them to a 1-1 draw in Nakuru.
Rupia ends Police's wait
Police went into the match at Police Sacco Stadium without a win from three games, with two draws and a defeat. The poor start had already cost coach Nicholas Muyoti his job, Mozzart Sport reported. Ulinzi had collected only two points and were in the relegation zone.
Elvis Rupia hit the side netting in the first minute and scored in the 24th, running onto a pass from Victor Haki and finishing past the Ulinzi defence. Ulinzi came closest to an equaliser in the 80th minute, when Police goalkeeper Job Ochieng saved a powerful shot from Boniface Muchiri. Police held on, moved up to eighth, and left the soldiers 17th.
Slum Boys hand Tusker first defeat
Mathare were 2-0 up at half-time. Joshua Nyatini fired in a rebound on the half-hour after Tusker goalkeeper Brian Bwire punched out a cross, and Michael Oduor scored against his former club a minute before the break.
Fabian Adikiny pulled one back for Tusker early in the second half. Moments later, Mathare's Michael Mutinda was sent off for a second yellow card. The Brewers pushed for an equaliser, and Mathare goalkeeper Kevin Ouru saved a header from defender Eugene Ikutwa. Mathare held on for the three points.
The win took Mathare out of the relegation zone and was Tusker's first league defeat of the campaign, a blow to their hopes of keeping pace with leaders Gor Mahia.
Shabana slip up in Nakuru
Irungu Maina gave Shabana the lead on the stroke of half-time, but Churchill Otieno equalised for Migori Youth in the 75th minute. According to Capital FM, Shabana are sixth on six points after four matches, with one win, two draws and one defeat. Migori Youth are still unbeaten but have yet to win a game.
