Ebola: what we know so far in Kenya
Kenya confirmed its first imported case of Bundibugyo Ebola virus disease on October 6, 2026. The patient was a Kenyan citizen who had lived in the DRC for seven years. He travelled by road to Kampala and flew to Nairobi, where he died on the night of October 5.
The Ministry of Health has listed 28 contacts, including family members and health workers. CS Aden Duale said the ministry is also tracing 23 other passengers and four crew members from the same flight. Contacts will be isolated for 21 days. President Ruto has ordered an enhanced response.
The ministry has advised the public to stay calm and avoid crowded places. Health officials say Ebola spreads through direct contact with the body fluids of a sick person, not through the air. Anyone who develops fever, weakness, vomiting or unexplained bleeding after possible exposure should contact the nearest health facility.
