Arunga Secures Strategic Backing From MUCISA
The race for the Maseno University Students Organisation (SOMU) Secretary General position gained significant momentum after the Maseno University Computing and Informatics Students Association (MUCISA) formally endorsed Samuel Arunga Jr ahead of the forthcoming student elections scheduled for October 23. This is the second endorsement after Emmanuel Omondi and Owira few days ago.
The endorsement was announced during a meeting convened by school delegates and members of the MUCISA executive leadership at Caroline Herine Eating House. The gathering was chaired by MUCISA Chairperson Sege Peter and brought together student leaders to deliberate on the association’s position regarding the upcoming SOMU polls.
In a move that underscores the growing political significance of student associations in campus governance, MUCISA resolved to throw its weight behind Arunga’s candidature for the influential office of Secretary General. The endorsement is expected to bolster Arunga’s campaign by consolidating support from students within the School of Computing and Informatics, one of the university’s most vibrant academic constituencies.
Speaking after receiving the endorsement, Samuel Arunga Jr expressed gratitude to the association for what he described as a courageous and progressive decision. He commended the student leaders for demonstrating confidence in his vision, leadership philosophy, and commitment to advancing the interests of the wider student community.
The MUCISA Secretary clarified that the association’s endorsement was exclusively limited to the Secretary General position. According to the official, the executive and delegates deliberately chose not to endorse candidates for any other SOMU offices, making Arunga the sole beneficiary of the association’s political backing in the current election cycle.
The development adds a new dimension to the evolving SOMU electoral landscape, where endorsements from organized student bodies increasingly influence voting patterns and campaign dynamics. Political observers within the university believe the endorsement could strengthen Arunga’s visibility and credibility as campaigns intensify across various campuses.
With less than a month remaining before students head to the ballot on October 23, attention now shifts to how other schools, associations, and voting blocs will position themselves in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive contest for the SOMU Secretary General seat.
